    Rydal Mount & Gardens

Located a couple of miles out of Ambleside, this gorgeous house was the home of William Wordsworth for 37 years. His family still live here and the house contains many of his personal items. The beautiful large garden is almost unchanged from when it was first designed by Wordsworth himself.

Always interesting exhibitions and an impressive permanent collection that includes works by Gainsborough, Sargent, Henry Scott Tuke, and the renowned Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse -

    Places To Eat

Dolly's Tea Room & Wine Bar

During the day, Dolly's is a traditional tea room serving cream teas and homemade cakes.. By evening, it becomes a wine bar/gin palace/tapas bar with quaint 'tea service' cocktails. Shabby chic repurposed furniture, a great selection of reading material and a dog-friendly environment make this a relaxed and homely place to while away the day or evening.

An amazing little cafe/deli with all the usual counter fare made fresh on the premises. Great value and generally scrumptious. They also have a good range of vegetarian and gluten-free options.

A cute wee restaurant hidden away in an old traditional slate building down a quiet lane in the center of town. The menu is unadventerous, but tasty and made with mostly local ingredients. They also serve a nice range of locally brewed beers.

All food in the restaurant (cafe) is prepared onsite with mainly fresh local ingredients. There are also yummy treats from local specialty and artisan fine-food producers in the farm shop.
