    Cessnock Race Course

We caught some great racing here, sitting back and enjoying a glass of wine. The greyhounds were on when we arrived - I'd never seen them up so close and racing before and it's amazing how powerful they are.

    Ngurra Bu Aboriginal Cultural Tours

We were originally going to do a half day tour in the morning, but after checking out the other tours we decided to do the Twilight Tour. It was interesting seeing all the ceremonial places, ancient carvings and learning about the Aboriginal tribes that had lived there. hearing about it under the stars made it more magical, we made a good choice.

Wineries of course. Choose any and stsrt from there.

    Port Stephens Mountain Bike Adventures

I'm an avid mountain biker, and I was not let down by the challenging tracks our guide Mick lead us down. The area is very pretty, especially catching glimpses of the bay through the trees. We stopped for a break at Point Stephens Lighthouse and the highlight was seeing a kangaroo hop across the path on the way back.

Well this was something I never thought I'd do... while I was a bit skeptical, the tour was as much about history as well as the alleged ghosts that haunt the area. Learning about the Old Royal Hospital was interesting, as was watching the poor girl in our group who was so easily scared! I wished her luck for the cemetery tour she was going to do the week after.

    The Beltree Restaurant

Another wonderful Italian restaurant/cafe. Though a bit remote, that worked it its favour. We enjoyed our meal outside in the sun after tasting some of the local wines. Check out their veggie garden too - almost everything is grown on site. My tomatoes at home were more than jealous.

Sweet potato gnocci - yum! I loved the older style feel to the place, especially the wagon wheel above the bar. The staff were very nice, even though it was really busy when we went for dinner.

I have a massive sweet tooth, so this place was like heaven for me! We stopped for breakfast on the way to Port Stephens and the vanilla crepes certainly hit the spot.

    Wineries Galore

From the early 1800s to 1840 there were over 500 acres of vineyards registered in Hunter Valley! Now days there are over 150 wineries and the area also produces cheeses, olives and olive oil - perfect for people who love Italian food as much as I do.
