    Driving Creek Railway

Created almost entirely by one of New Zealand's most renowned artisans, the potter Barry Brickell, Driving Creek Railway is an hour long journey through beautiful native bush and quirky art/engineering, ending at a lookout tower with magnificent panoramic views. Included in the ticket price is a chance to explore a nature sanctuary and working artisans area, as well as a small gallery of finished works for sale.

This place is brilliant! Dozens of crazy water powered inventions largely made from recycled materials, as well as bush walks, genuinely exciting play equipment and a lovely swimming hole. There is a nice-looking cafe onsite, but you are also free to bring your own food, with an excellent picnic area including barbecues. Definitely at its best with kids and in Summer!

    Coromandel Mussel Kitchen

As the name suggests, this place does mussels! Harvested themselves for absolute freshness and served steamed, grilled, battered, in a chowder or many other ways. They also do a selection of safe standard dishes, if someone in your party is unfortunate enough to not like mussels. They are fully licensed with a good range of wine and beer - including a couple of their own brews! Easily found about 5 minutes drive from Coromandel Town on State Highway 25, heading towards Thames.

A surprisingly splendid vegetarian/organic cafe, with good vegan and gluten-free options too. Their coffee, chai tea, sweet treats and main meals are all exemplary. The Chai Tea House is also licensed and holds regular (mainly mellow acoustic) concerts, making it great for a night out. Not open over Winter.

An enchanting wee restaurant in an old converted cottage right on the main street of Coromandel Town. The cuisine is award-winning and world-class but still definitely 'Kiwi' with fresh local seafood a main feature.
